Nfl concussions jump 32 per cent for 2015 season

The concussion crisis has been in the news since last year when Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger suffered a devastating head injury that sent him to the hospital for more than a week. The number of concussions on both sides of the ball reached a nadir last year, with just two NFL teams including the Seahawks and 49ers having more than 20 players with one head injury each.

Despite Roethlisberger’s unfortunate injury, there was an even greater emphasis on reducing concussions among NFL players last season. That’s partially why the number of concus바카라sions among players has jumped 32 per cent over the past two seasons, according to a league source with knowledge of the data.

The number of head injuries in football rose from 31 in 2011 to 33 in 2015, compared with just five in 2008, and more than 50 in 2014, the year of the start of the concussion crisis in America.

The rise in concussions among NFL players is no accident. An ongoing study by the American Academy of Pediatrics is looking at the impact of various concussions on athletes, but the focus so far has been on football.

Researchers have found the number of head injuries among players declined from 7,874 during the first year of the NFL’s modern concussion policy to just 4,726 in 2014, with only the San Diego Chargers gaining a player with two head injuries during that same time. The only other NFnatyasastra.comL team to post more than two head injuries in a single year was the San Francisco 49ers, who had 21 players with one concussion.

According to a summary released last month by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the vast majority of concussions and brain injuries are caused by falls or hits to the head, which occur frequently and are often treated as mild. In 2015, more than 19 per cent of all NFL players were diagnosed with a concussion and more than 90 per cent of those concussed experienced at least one post-concussion symptom, including headaches, headaches that don’t go away, dizziness, lightheadedness and blurred vision.

The issue of concussions i바카라사이트s so widespread that the NFL has put on a website that links every player with a concussion diagnosis to his or her team. The league does not yet have the same number of concussion players in its league rosters as it does for college students who receive federal student aid, but more than 10,000 professional and amateur players have been diagnosed with concussions during their careers.
